Money Big Enlistment Attraction in Civil War Elyria
Patriotism drew many Elyrians into Civil War service while bounty money tempted others. Michael McAvoy Jr. earned a $60 bounty by enlisting in the 123rd OVI and guarding Confederate prisoners at Johnson's Island. His younger brother Charles vanished with the money before returning later. In Lorain, the Numis Association meets with speaker Bill Carlson on proofs coins and an auction of 50 lots.
