Reader argues against horse racing ethics citing fatalities and slaughter
A letter writer counters horse racing as a business with ethical concerns. He notes 484 fatalities in 2016 per the American Jockey Club, 166000 horses sent to slaughter last year, and bids to justify more humane treatment. He cites Justify’s $75 million breeding deal and questions the value of racing for society.

It notes Uber drivers are part time for many, debates over job security, and that trends may be overstated. Robert Samuelson adds skeptical context.
