Black River teachers upset over $300 salary rise

The Black River Board of Education approved a $300 across the board raise, raising starting pay for a bachelor’s degree holder with no experience to $6,700 annually and adding longevity bumps of $300 for 15 years, $400 for 20, and $500 for 25 years. Critics noted funds exist within current appropriations, while the board said it cannot afford the broader increases and will study levy options. A separate 25-cent hourly raise was approved for noncertified staff with a Sept. start date for the schedules.
