Mayor attends talks on city finances and tax levy
Mayor Fred B. Sanford will attend a two day seminar on city finances in Cincinnati next week with Council President Eugene Smith Councilman at large Richard E. Baird and City Auditor Edwin Haywood. The Ohio Municipal League sponsors the seminar and Sanford notes a city finance issue on the May ballot with a 2 mill levy expiring next year.

Two area liquor spots had their licenses suspended by the State Liquor Control in actions announced by Rev Kenneth Messe of the Congregational Church. The El Rancho Grande in Lorain and Wakeman Grill in Wakeman face suspensions from June 23 noon to June 30, for Sunday sales and violations involving sale of beer to minors. Home burns after heater ignites trash
Fire sparked by a gas flame from a water heater igniting nearby trash and materials in a first floor utility room at 117 Pine St. The blaze spread to the kitchen and bath, then up siding to the second floor. Lorain names Bernice Pristas deputy director for the Southeast District becoming the first woman in the role in Lorain Civil Defense.
