Bishops OK revisions on sex abuse policy
The U S bishops approved minor revisions to the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People at the Spring General Assembly in Bellevue Washington aligning with Vatican norms including crimes against church law such as child pornography. The revisions require reporting to the pope's representative and to police, and reinforce removal of priests guilty of abuse. Critics say the changes are insufficient amid recent cases in Kansas City and Philadelphia and call for broader overhaul.
