Uniroyal and URW reach tentative three year pact

AP reports Uniroyal and United Rubber Workers reached a tentative three year contract after a late night session beginning Saturday. URW spokesperson Janis Froelich said the pact exceeds the Goodrich deal in value and details will be released later.

Supreme Court upholds ban on Laetrile for terminal cancer

The Supreme Court unanimously overturned a lower Denver ruling that allowed terminal cancer patients to obtain Laetrile. The decision holds that Laetrile is not exempt from the safety and efficacy standards of the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act, reinforcing federal authority to restrict the drug. Justice Thurgood Marshall wrote that safety must be balanced against potential benefits, and the act contains no special protection for drugs used to treat terminal illness.
