State mulls appeal in Papp murder retrial bid

Timothy Papp, serving three life terms for the Rolle Ann Keathiey murder, seeks a new trial. Assistant prosecutor Elio Zerbini says the state may appeal after the Sixth Circuit upheld a district court order for a new trial and allowed Roxie Ann’s ravished body to be admitted as evidence.

Sadlowski presses abuse claims in USW election

About 250 Labor Department agents will probe defeated candidate Ed Sadlowski’s charge that United Steelworkers President Lloyd McBride won last February’s union election illegally. Truck slams Hawley's car near North Ridgeville

North Ridgeville Light editor David R. Hawley 58 was killed when his eastbound car failed to stop for a flashing red light at Rt 113 and was struck by a southbound tractor trailer driven by Gary D. Meyer. Hawley, active in Sigma Delta Chi, died of chest injuries after pronouncement at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital Norwalk. No charges filed. investigation ongoing. Hawley owned a major stake in the Light since 1971. circulation about 13,000 serving North Ridgeville and nearby communities. Funeral arrangements are at Jervins Funeral Chapel Westlake.

Three boys trapped in Elyria bank elevator during storm

A thunderstorm caused outages as Glenn Miller and two other youths, Ron Alkert and Chris Angelus, were stuck for about 30 minutes in the Elyria Savings and Trust Building elevator. Firemen freed them after a faulty key delay. No injuries reported. Nearby, lightning damaged Sacred Heart Church steeple and a Lorain tree porch, with widespread outages and weather-related incidents across the area.
