Metalworking Industry's Prospects Bright This Year
New orders for machinery and rising steel production buoy the metalworking sector into a strong second half. Industry groups forecast 7 percent overall orders rise from 1959 with pump, compressor, and office machinery makers leading gains, while steel output climbs in July and August though no dramatic surge is expected. Farm, industrial furnace, and small motor sectors show solid demand, with auto parts facing a slower order pace but expected uptick by midyear as new models roll out.
