General Johnnie Wilson Park welcomed hundreds of Lorain residents for the fifth Juneteenth event organized by Kimyata Hawthorne. Local nonprofits and government agencies shared resources while volunteers funded free food, entertainment, and activities, with donations covering hot dogs, drinks, and event costs.
The 11th Lorain Blues Fest at Lakeview Park on Father's Day celebrated Juneteenth with bands and a community gathering. Organizers led by the Lorain YWCA highlighted Black cultural heritage and noted Lakeview Park’s ties to Lorain’s Gilmore family, including Gen. Quincy Adams Gilmore, Civil War veteran.
