County commissioners tentatively adopt a 1955 budget with all requests for salary increases eliminated. The general fund is estimated at 1,512,500, about 77,329 more than this year. A public hearing is set for June 30 in the commissioners' office.
In Oberlin on Route 20, about 100 pigs dumped from a truck roamed for a day and a half. A group of local youths, led by boys including Dick Easterday and Gerry Streator, spent five hours locating, corraling, and securing the pigs. Several animals were killed or shot due to injuries, while many remained unharmed. the operation ended with the boys receiving a $5 reward.
Elyria moves toward a new trial after Lorain County judge sided with the Ohio Turnpike Commission denying a city injunction to block land seizure and toll road construction.
