Unloaded gun kills 12 year old girl in mock Western show
In Amherst Township a 12-year-old girl, Kim Gallo, died of a chest wound after a 22 caliber pistol and a .45 caliber pistol were used in a back-to-back mock quick draw. A 14-year-old boy, not identified, held the loaded gun. Sheriff Lt Charles Bulger said the incident occurred during a private display, the kids acting out a show. The case will be presented to the prosecutor as negligent homicide. Kim, born in Lorain, recently finished sixth grade at Central Middle School Amherst. She attended the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and played in the Amherst Riders Softball League. She is survived by her parents, Barbara Smith and Frank Gallo, and two sisters. Funeral services are planned at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer after calling hours at John Glayna Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Ridgehill Memorial Park Cemetery.
