Manhattan Evening Reveries From a Broadway Columnist

In a June New York diary style piece, Ewing Galloway and the author describe a Manhattan summer evening’s glow. The author notes Fifth Avenue’s hush, Broadway’s sleepy reverie, and vivid city canvases as night settles. He recounts encounters with Helen Gould’s corner, Oscar Wilde impersonations aside, and a walk past restaurants like the Colony where meals start at two dollars, praising restraint as a restaurant’s crowning attainment. He muses on public faces, city noises, and a cafe sighting with Jack Dempsey and Hannah Williams, ending with a nod to the upcoming Dempsey projection.
