Postpone Final Action On Gas Ordinance

Council postpones final action on a new gas rate ordinance at the Logan Gas Company request due to absence of a Columbus official. The next meeting sets July 6 to revisit the matter. Lawrence Webber, the company attorney, says a 50 cent city rate is unacceptable and a third reading would force an appeal to the public utilities commission, likely a long fight. The parties hope to negotiate a settlement to avoid commission action. If unresolved, the company may continue under the present rate with a bond and refund future reductions.
