Rhodes backs gas tax hike in Ohio budget

Gov. James A. Rhodes supports a bill to raise the gasoline tax by 4 percent as part of Ohio's $1.7 billion transportation budget for the next biennium. Carter heads to Vienna for pivotal SALT summit with Brezhnev

Trucker slow down on Ohio Turnpike sparks arrests

Slow moving commercial trucks backed up eastbound five miles near Elyria on the Ohio Turnpike as drivers angry over fuel costs caused a stoppage. Local station owners close after nine years amid rising costs

Don Law of Sohio at Cleveland Street and Abbe Road and Wayne McKenzie of Marathon at 296 N Abbe Road announce closing their stations after nine years of operation. Inflation and mounting expenses crush profits. Law cites $1000 monthly rent as unhelpful while McKenzie previously paid per-gallon charges now replaced by a $450 flat rent. Both say they are tired of the gasoline business despite partial praise for their respective companies.
