FutureGen coal project to restart with Illinois ties
Federal officials and a consortium of energy companies plan to revive the FutureGen clean coal project in Mattoon Illinois with key support from an Illinois born president and over 1 billion dollars in federal stimulus funds. The plan centers on carbon capture and storage to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and may cost over 2 billion dollars with private funds filling the gap. Mayor David Cline of Mattoon says the city remains confident the project will be built.
