Bob Brummer and his wife Sandy run Bob Brummer's Homemade Chocolates in Vermilion continuing a three generation family sweets tradition begun in New Jersey in 1904. Brummer says about 80 percent of current offerings remain the same, with 90 varieties of candy and strong local and tourist demand fueled by Woollybear and Festival of the Fish.

Notable items include wallet theft with stolen IDs, credit cards canceled, and a driver charged with operating while intoxicated.
Seven vandalism reports filed by the Vermilion Police Department flag suspected juvenile involvement. Incidents include shoe polish on a vehicle, spray paint on a building, three slashed tires, windows damaged on boats and a car, attempts to damage in a park, a vehicle striking Breeze Park gate, and damage to a metal directional sign.
