New York bound ships include Tift Victory from Le Havre with 977 troops, Norway Victory from Bremerhaven with 767 troops, Arthur Middleton with 1,197 personnel, Gordonis with 33 naval personnel, Acadian from Pearl Harbor with 80 troops. Seattle arrivals include Goucher Victory from Yokohama with 844 troops.

Choir To Present Choral Evensong At St Andrew's Episcopal

Members presented Shafer with a pen and pencil set a wristwatch and a silver chest for his wife. Vic Rosary Elyria Biks Club exalted ruler announced a farewell dinner June 2 and Shafer plans to leave for Florida around July 1.

Lorain county Farm Labor Office issued its first call of the year for boys and girls to pick berries. Twenty five pickers are needed tomorrow morning. meet at 7 am on the Second street side of Ely park. Growers’ trucks will transport workers to farms and return after dawn’s work. About 90 children showed up yesterday, 70 sent to farms. demand for young pickers remains high in Lorain.

Oberlin College has awarded its first Howard Phillips Frank Scholarship covering four years of tuition. A $10,000 fund, created last year by relatives of Howard Frank, a Oberlin alumnus who died in service in November 1944, will finance a College of Arts and Sciences scholarship for a well rounded student with leadership and character. The inaugural recipient, Theodore C Doege, a Bronxville High School student, ranks in the top tenth of his class. his parents are Dr Arthur J Doege and Mrs Doege.
