Fire Destroys Two Barns in Eaton Township
Fire yesterday afternoon destroyed two large barns on Route 82 in Eaton Township. Lightning struck the silo beside the cow barn and spread to the horse barn. Five tons of straw and nine tons of hay were lost. No animals were inside. Local men fought flames without adequate equipment due to Eaton Township lacking a fire department.

Allied Troops Caught In Trap Near Seine River
British and Allied forces were driven into a German trap in the St Valery Ex Caux area about 35 miles northeast of Le Havre. About 6,090 British troops and an undetermined number of other Allied soldiers were captured while remainder of the division had been evacuated to a French port. New reinforcements arrived in France and joined the fighting with the French army.

Wife Of Oberlin Conservatory Director Dies at 53
Mrs. Julia Seder Shaw, 53, wife of Dr. Frank Shaw director of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, died after a long illness. A native of Kolhapur India she studied in Wooster and Hillsdale before graduating in 1908 from Oberlin Conservatory. The couple lived in Monmouth Iowa and Mt Vernon Iowa before returning to Oberlin in 1924. Survived by husband and two Oberlin children Virginia and John. Funeral at First Church Saturday at 3 pm with Rev. James Austin Richards officiating. burial in Westwood Cemetery.
