Two Confidence Men Arrested After Cleveland Swindle

In Cleveland on June 13 two known confidence men were arrested in a Detroit exclusive apartment house after a $22,000 swindle against Mrs. Sarah Silberberg. Detectives traced a trunk and a 15 year old boy led them to the hideout. Extradition papers will bring the pair back to Ohio for trial.

Electric shock ends life in water tub accident

In Canton Ohio on June 13 Herbert Martindale aged 44 was electrocuted while reaching to turn on an electric light while standing in a tub of water. His wife acted quickly, pulling the switch to cut the current, but he was already dead.

Doumergue Passes Power to Paul Doumer as France’s President

Paris June 1 During a simple ceremony Gaston Doumergue transferred executive power to Paul Doumer the former senate president who becomes France’s thirteenth chief executive. The hand over included a speech by Doumer the new leader and the ceremonial creation of power through the red sash of Grand Master of the Legion of Honor. Salutes fired twenty one guns as Doumer fills seven year Elysee term while bands played and cavalry stood guard.

Holy Cross School Graduation Sunday

Supreme Court decision upholding a lower valuation for Logan Gas Company could mean a substantial rate reduction for Elyria. Washington reports experts forecast a sharp drop in June income tax receipts and a smaller summer revenue haul than in recent prosperous years. At a Cham ber of Commerce meeting the Merchants Division asked Federal Highway No 20 representatives how the Duck Pond road project would affect Elyria business. H E A Sherrill reported 20 foot concrete pavement is being laid at 600 feet daily over about 112 miles to Grafton road, with three miles remaining to Route 20. The new link to U S 20 will tie to No 82 toward Cleveland, and a sign directing traffic for Elyria could be erected if the Chamber provides precise sign content.
