President Coolidge welcomes 75 nations to Washington for the International Soil Congress. Delegates discuss soil use, crop production, and global food programs. Coolidge cites U.S. agricultural funding of about 57 million dollars yearly and 16.36 million for scientific research.
Sejanus A. Lengel former Canton police chief faced murder conspiracy charges against editor Don R. Melett. Lengel pleaded not guilty and asked the court to appoint counsel citing lack of funds. The judge ruled the family could not hire counsel.
Federal officers moved to hold Joe Atkins aged 41 and Mrs Mannu Burd of Darton in connection with a bank raid at Ansenia. Atkins reportedly sat in the plaza while two bandits robbed the bank of 246 000. The two suspects were arrested at Sandy Leach near Lake St Mar.
Sam Steinberg a jewelry salesman for Stear and Susskin Providence was held up in Detroit and relieved of jewels valued around £15000. He and the driver were forced from a hired car onto the sidewalk as bandits fled in a waiting car.
Commander Richard E. Byrd said he will attempt a trans Atlantic hop to Paris in his tri motor Fokker monoplane within two weeks. Weather conditions remain the main factor in determining the takeoff from New York, before his flight to join Col. Lindbergh.

Columbus report lists seven Ohioans dead from weekend crashes. Walter Poe, 15, and Joseph Strebel, 19, died when their car rolled near Greenville, Darke County after windshields were struck by two quail. Other victims include Betty Johnson in Cleveland, Virginia Scott in Marion, Edna Armstrong of Pine Hamilton County, Orville Nixon of Wyoming, Hamilton County, and Mrs. BL Teaston wife of a Lima dry goods man near Lima.
