Vermilion plans study into possible integration or expansion of emergency medical services within the Vermilion Fire Department. Lifecare now handles 911 for about 160000 residents in northern Lorain County. A feasibility study by the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association will assess current EMS and regionalization options as Vermilion grows.

Festival of the Fish returns with 80s mullet theme in Vermilion
Vermilion hosts a three day Festival of the Fish featuring 37 food vendors and nearly 100 craft vendors. The event centers on Fishing in the 80s Big Hair and Mullet mania with live music, a royalty pageant, and fireworks over Lake Erie. Friday offers beach yoga and a Journey tribute band. Saturday includes a sand castle contest and a Crazy Craft Regatta with DJ Fusion Live and Vinyl Arcade. Disco Inferno performs at night.

Prosecution rests in Elyria stabbing case
Lorain man Andrew Davison, 42, facing charges from a July 2024 indictment, saw two aggravated robbery counts dropped as prosecutors rested their case in Lorain County Common Pleas Court. Remaining counts include attempted murder, two felonious assault charges, and criminal damaging. Jury to decide these charges.
