Pressure mounts as C sections rise in South Florida
Doctors say rising Caesarean rates in Broward and Palm Beach counties push costs and risk. In the year ending June 30 2008 Broward 43 percent and Palm Beach 41 percent of births were C sections well above the national 31.8 percent. Obstetricians cite liability, lack of labor and delivery specialists, diabetes and obesity as contributing factors while some hospitals report varied rates.
