Vermilion council approved paving Douglas Street as a four lane thoroughfare with underroad sewers and water lines to avoid future utility disruption. The project is estimated at 115000 with the city’s share 20802 and property owners assessed. Lloyd Kishman was named to the Lorain County Regional Planning Commission solid waste study group.
The Columbia Township Zoning Commission approved a amended setback regulation for pools, ponds, lakes and open reservoirs. The measure sets 50 foot road setbacks, aligns side and rear clearances with district rules, and requires pumping and filtration equipment to meet yard limits. Artificial water features must meet Soil Conservation Service specs. The board will discuss dog-kennel zoning at next Tuesday’s 8:30 p.m. meeting.
NASA plans a land appraisal near Plum Brook Station in Sandusky to secure a 3,000 acre buffer for current and future research. The land, once Army-owned, will be appraised before negotiations begin in good faith for just compensation.
Chatham hosts the Annual Spring Strawberry Festival with home made ice cream and lunch in the United Church of Christ dining room starting at 5 30 p m. Menu includes chicken sloppy joe sandwiches potato salad baked beans pie and cake with hot or cold beverages. The Women’s Fellowship and the Women’s Society for Christian Services meet at the Methodist Church June 20 at 8 p m with joint programs after business. Plans will be made for Sesquicentennial events in July.
