Lorain annexation plan rejected by state board over Ford Plant tax

The Lorain City School District failed to advance annexation of 2250 acres west of the city including the Ford Motor Co assembly plant valued at over 20 million dollars. The state board of education unanimously denied the request, citing a 12 month deadline after territorial annexation and noting the plant was not built when the area was annexed in the late 1930s. Citizens in Amherst protested a water shortage amid a hot spell, with about 50 residents attending council to urge relief. A voluntary lawn and pool sprinkling ban was discussed, with enforcement questions and possible curtailments during peak hours.
