St Johns Lutheran School awards honor 13 graduates
Eighth grade graduates at St John’s Lutheran School received top honors Yester day. Marilyn Jantz won first place and Ernest Galajda second for outstanding class members. Awards included gold pins and a funded week at a summer camp. The process emphasized character and essay writing on The Lutheran Children's Aid Society. 13 diplomas were presented by J W Dilgren and Fred Schoditsch.

Man Treated After Gunshot Wound to Hand
Elyria man was treated at Elyria Memory Hospital yesterday for a gunshot wound through the left hand. He told police the pistol discharged while he was showing it to a friend, the bullet passing through the palm without hitting bones or tendons.

Wedemeyer denies favoring China coalition in testimony
Lt Gen Albert C Wedemeyer testified he never supported a coalition between Nationalist and Communist regimes in China. He joined Gen MacArthur in denying the idea, and disputed Achesons claim that military leaders believed Formosa would fall to the Communists. Arthur Novak aged 14 of 136 Pasadena avenue was bitten on the back by a dog owned by Jack Knight of 517 Gulf road. The incident occurred while he played with Knight’s son. the dog had a bone in its mouth.

Diplomas Awarded By Catholic High School
Perfect weather greeted hundreds of parents at the second annual graduation at the Elsina District Catholic High School. Forty three graduates, 16 boys and 27 girls, received diplomas from Rev Edward J Seward J C L. Dr Basil S Haren urged graduates to hold fast to American ideals and faith as they enter a world of war of ideas. Rev Joseph B Lehane introduced Rev Seward and praised Elyrian ties as diplomas were handed to the class after a ceremony featuring a cappella selections and the National Anthem.

Ridgeville Youth Dies In Accident
Theo dore L Gerhart 20 of 6450 Avon Belden road Ridgeville was killed in a Route 20 crash three miles east of Elyria. He had just left Camp Breckenridge Ky and was on weekend pass to see his fiancee Lee Schultz of Cleveland. He died of a fractured skull and jaw in a head on collision after apparently sleeping at the wheel. Military funeral services will be held at the Gerhart home and St Peters church in Ridgeville with burial in St Peters cemetery.

Bernard Amos Lassond of Chatham was wounded in action June 1 in Korea, according to General Gates. Lassond, a 1st Class Marine, entered service Oct 26, trained at Parris Island, earned a sharp shooter’s medal, and served at Camp Pendleton before arriving in Japan May 1 and entering combat duty. Body of Elyrian Killed in Korea Returns Home
Master Sergeant Earl Wl Newell of Elyria, 35, killed in Korea, is among 288 aboard the Rutgers Victory. The body will arrive at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation and reach Elyria to be taken to the Finley Mortuary in Lorain. Newell served in World War II in Europe and the Pacific and was a graduate of Slyria High School class of 1935. He was the son of Mrs. Marion Williams and enlisted in New York State after graduation.

British government seeks missing diplomats in global search

Six Teens Arrested In Car Theft Case
A bill of conduct led to the arrest of six youths aged 15 and 16 for stealing a car from Rothbery Service and Equipment Co. The vehicle belonged to Arthu rnes of Lorain and was found abandoned at the Supper Club on Lake Avenue. A $65 camera was recovered, and a 15 year old boy confessed to taking the car and named others including a 16 year old who also admitted thefts from Elco Motor Co. and Rivoli theater. The youths were turned over to juvenile authorities.
