Deal with Duke Energy on Dan River coal ash spill cleanup
North Carolina and Virginia environmental and wildlife officials signed a multipart agreement with Duke Energy and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service requiring Duke to cover reasonable cleanup costs and ongoing aquatic monitoring after the February 2 Dan River spill. The pact includes no cost cap and follows a similar deal with the EPA.
