Northeast Ohio bakery drivers strike grounds deliveries

Bakery drivers across northeast Ohio walked out Friday after contract talks broke off. Local 52 spokesmen said talks ended quickly as pickets appeared at Schwebel Bakery Youngstown Millbrook Bread Cleveland and Nickles Bakery. Stores with in house bakeries scrambled to keep ovens hot while others faced bread shortages and delayed deliveries.

Population declines hit Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties

Ohio Data Users Center reports Lorain County fell 1.3 percent from 273,300 to 271,300 and Cuyahoga County dropped 2.5 percent from 1,471,000 to about 1,460,600 between 1983 and mid 1984. Summit shows a 23 percent decline. Emigration driven by unemployment cited. retirees noted as a factor.

Ridgeville study links prison sewer line to growth impact

A report on extending Ridgeville sewer lines 8.5 miles to a proposed Eaton Township prison projects 1600 new residential customers worth 80 million in real estate value and about 2000 new jobs plus 600 single family homes. The plan uses 7 million gallon capacity with a possible one million gallon surplus.
