Canal Program Up To Leaders Canal Program Up To Leaders
Albany June 8 The Republican and Democratic national conventions were urged to include planks backing an all American deep waterway from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic via the New York barge canal. Four hundred business leaders from eight states attended the Great Lakes Hudson Waterways association meeting. Col Frederick S Greene represented Gov Smith. Col Edward C Carrington led a resolution urging both parties to support the canal. The measure calls for using the existing Albany Buffalo barge canal as part of the inland waterway and seeks support from party conventions and state officials. Foreign customs differ from ours says Dr Hunter
Dr R C Hunter, back from a tour abroad, notes that American customs differ from those in Europe and Asia. He cites English dining with forks in the left hand, driving on the left, racing directions opposite to Americans on sod tracks, French clocks showing 24 hours, Germans' unfamiliarity with pie, and European scarcity of sandwiches.
