Slower tropical storms raise rainfall in a warming world

A Nature study finds tropical cyclones move about 10 percent slower globally since the 1940s and 1950s, with a notable 20 percent slowdown for Atlantic storms making landfall. Slower storms stall and dump more rain, as seen with Harvey. The study cites past observations, notes data limits before 1970, and highlights climate change as a likely cause while acknowledging uncertainty.
