Thew Shovel Co. celebrates Chauncey B. Smythe’s 50 years with the firm with a two day program. Friday features a national distributor luncheon and Elyria Country Club dinner. Saturday honors Smythe with an employee day including plant tour, demonstrations, and a 2 40 p.m. presentation. Smythe began with the company in 1940, becoming CEO in 1951, and has held numerous civic roles in Elyria.

Woman In Hospital Was Shot In Elyria Exes Fight
In Lorain county a 23 year old woman Regina Turner was shot in the shoulder and treated at St Joseph hospital while 39 year old Leroy Davis of Elyria was jailed on investigation of shooting to kill. Turner said Davis had threatened her since their breakup and returned with companions to shoot at her after impersonating police officers. She fired back with a .32 caliber pistol but an house resident disputed her version. Three children were in the home during the exchange. Davis was arrested at the Elyria Police Station and held for further questioning.
