Large Barn Destroyed By Fire On Hale Farm
A large barn on the Neil Hale farm between Elyria and Oberlin on Route 20 burned after an 11:00 a.m. start, likely from a spark from a tractor grinding feed. The blaze, fueled by hay and grain, destroyed about 15 tons of hay and 100 bushels each of wheat and oats, with three calves, one bull, and a team saved. Oberlin fire department fought the fire but could not stop it. the corn crib nearby was saved though its roof began to burn. Estimated loss is $3500, with partial insurance.
