Earlier Cutting Of Clover Urged For Higher Hay Value
Ohio agronomy officials report clover hay yields and protein rise when cut in early summer. Studies at Holgate show best protein per acre for medium red and alsike clovers from June 1 to 9, with minimal yield loss. Cutting earlier than mid June also benefits second crop seed production and supports earlier alfalfa feeding.

Advises Culling Herd In Spring For Dairy Farms
An agricultural note from extension specialist C L Rischman discusses spring herd culling to stabilize dairy markets. Farmers hesitate to call herd units timely, leading to an influx of cows for veterinary and roundup work, depressing prices. Ohio milk production trends show fewer cows milking in April, despite a 10 percent cow increase since 1927, with overall milk output declining.
