Insurance rate changes affect Lorain County elderly drivers
Lorain County insurers propose a 5 percent discount for senior citizens insured by IRB companies, about 8 percent of all drivers. Younger drivers face a 7 percent increase, while driver training discounts rise to 12 percent for ages 17 to 20. The plan includes higher surcharges for points on records and targeted increases for work mileage and farmers. Ohio Insurance Commission action is not expected to block the schedule. The 2.7 percent overall rate rise affects 186 companies and 2,000 senior drivers in the county.
