President Eisenhower expressed confidence that Army Specialist 3-C William S. Girard will receive a fair trial in Japanese courts. He noted U S government oversight through diplomatic channels if injustices arise and cited Japanese judicial fairness in prior cases involving American soldiers.
McKeesport millhand Don C. Rarick argues no congressional or court investigation is warranted into the United Steel Workers election. He says differences with the international administration can be resolved internally. Sen Mundt says staff will study possible union funds misuse after about 20 complaints from Rarick supporters. McDonald welcomes inquiry and says the union has nothing to hide.
Two Euclid High School graduates, Joseph Gleason 19 and Oscar Krauss Rarick, were killed when their speeding car failed a curve and hit a utility pole and tree on Rosecliff and Lake Shore Boulevard. A third passenger, 18-year-old Ray Clevenger, was seriously injured and taken to Euclid Glenville Hospital. The crash raises Cleveland's traffic death toll to 52 for the year.
Donna Armonas of Cleveland urged Nikita Khrushchev to free her Lithuanian mother and brother from Soviet control citing his TV call for friendship. She met with the Russian embassy and State Department officials but reported no encouragement, while promising to pursue help from the Red Cross.

Medina Ohio reports an $18 million mixed use development soon to start in Brunswick Township. The 475 acre project includes a $3 million shopping center and 1500 ranch homes priced at $10 000 to $12 000.
Two people died and two were seriously injured in a two car crash at Routes 6 and 199 twelve miles west of Fremont. Victims include Gerald Rhodes of Detroit and Patricia Neumueller of Oshkosh. Rhodes’ wife was injured. Gerald Neumueller wounded. Authorities say Rhodes ran a stop signal at Route 199.
President Eisenhower welcomed Khrushchev’s remarks on a small step approach to disarmament and said he would test the statements before judging. He questioned equal time on Soviet radio and TV to answer Khrushchev’s CBS interview and noted jamming concerns if such exchanges were arranged.

Sen McClellan predicted the Senate will cite Dave Beck Jr for contempt for invoking the Fifth Amendment 130 times in 40 minutes during Rackets Committee questioning. Joseph McEvoy, Beck Jr s nephew by marriage, also faced contempt action after invoking the Fifth 90 times. If approved, cases go to the Justice Department for prosecution with up to one year in prison and a $1000 fine.
