Gene tests guide chemo decisions in breast cancer study
About 17 percent of women with high risk scores were advised to have chemo while 16 percent with low risk scores could skip it. Among 67 percent with intermediate risk, nine year survival reached 94 percent with or without chemo and cancer-free survival around 84 percent, suggesting no overall benefit from adding chemo for most. Some women 50 or younger did benefit, but experts urge gene testing to tailor treatment.
