Elyria Schools lay off 22 support staff amid teacher recalls
Elyria City Schools board voted to cut 22 secretaries lunch monitors paraprofessionals and other support staff while recalling some of 24 teachers laid off in April. Experienced retirees left 24 vacancies to fill with certified teachers. four elementary and six secondary posts expected. New hires will start near entry level pay saving about 25000 per retiree replacement.

Admiral King Class of 2008 Graduates Despite Rain
Admiral King High School in Lorain held a rainy commencement with 234 graduates in the gymnasium and a video audience in the auditorium. Principal Stephen Sturgill was absent on National Guard duty. interim principal Diane Conibear led the ceremony as the class received more than 2.3 million dollars in scholarships and heard messages of optimism and leadership from educators and the valedictorian Catherine Stipe.
