North Vietnamese gunners bombed allied outposts near the DMZ with the heaviest mortar and rocket strikes in months, while heavy fighting continued around Artillery Base 5 in the Central Highlands. Air strikes and ground fire killed 130 Communist troops near a hilltop camp as bases along the DMZ faced broad shelling and rocket attacks.

Elyria part of expansion plans with 27 stores in the chain and expected first year sales exceed 200000.
Washington reports the U S unemployment rate rose to 6.2 percent in May, matching a nine year high. Joblessness climbed especially among construction and sales workers and young women, while long term unemployment increased. Wages rose modestly for about 45 million workers as living costs edged upward.
