North Ridgeville residents will vote July 30 on an urban renewal program after council set the date to avoid presidential election interference. The charter amendment requires voter submission before private property is appropriated for resale. Election cost set at $100 per precinct with 11 precincts.
North Ridgeville adopts an ordinance requiring permits and deposits for moving buildings. The fee includes $50 permit and $50 inspection, plus a $1,000 damage deposit held 60 days. Movers must use designated streets with police and fire oversight and carry liability insurance. The city cites no county obligation to repair a bridge damaged by movers on Root Road and notes the county will not fund such repairs.
Legal notice records an easement for Interstate Route 90 Avon-Chester Service Road in Lorain County Ohio. Parcel 224-WL describes the land, compensation totals and dates, names Ozog and Ozog heirs, and states public right to enter for highway construction per state plan.
The intersections of Root Road with Rt 10 and Rt 20 will receive additional traffic signals after the council authorized the mayor to contract for the lights following bid advertisements. The measure brings the crossings in line with state requirements for traffic lights per lane on state highways.

Lorain officials denied renewal of three liquor permits held by Elizabeth Szabados at Mitre's Budapest Restaurant after finding that after her death in 1959 the permits were improperly used by others. Executor Joseph A. Ujhelyi plans to appeal to the liquor control commission for the Szabados estate.
Buckeye Air Service based at Elyria Airport opened third level scheduled cargo flights to Cleveland Hopkins last night. The service serves Cleveland Detroit Dayton Louisville and Toledo to speed cargo to cross country centers and coast destinations. Buckeye operates four planes and offers passenger charters nationwide with plans for prop jet upgrades to boost speed and capacity.
Lorain County Health Department plans a fall levy after a May 9 defeat by 215 votes. The proposed levy would raise about 150000 dollars annually to fund health department work serving Lorain County excluding Elyria, Lorain and Vermilion. Dr. Marion G. Fisher chairs the health board urging county commissioners to place the measure on November 5.
Lorain city council did not discuss an ordinance to raise income tax to one percent at last night’s session. The measure was not on the agenda as the council had no chance to review a 23 million dollar capital improvement plan in a mayoral letter. The letter will be taken up by the finance claims committee on June 14, with officials saying the tax could still be enacted in time for an Oct 1 effective date. Gold discovery in California noted in a separate historical line referencing 1848 and figures Marshall and Sutter.
Cathy Jo Howell and fiancé Cliff Chanin faced charges after admitting they placed Nancy Perri s body in a trunk and dumped it into the East River to avoid police involvement. Chanin posted $10,000 bond. Howell remains jailed on a misdemeanor with up to 500 fine and one year sentence. A 17 year old girl’s body was found in a trunk near Staten Island on Memorial Day.
St Joseph Hospital recognized 128 volunteers for contributing over 24000 hours. Ethel Black led with 1238 hours in the previous year and 11618 total hours, followed by Mary Bardoner with 1053 hours and Mrs Vincent Glotaso with 915 hours. Sister Helen received a $5000 donation to support the maternity department bed project. The event included a "night in Hawaii" in the hospital cafeteria.
The FCC approved Lorain Community Broadcasting Co to operate Radio Station WWIZ in Lorain reversing a 1967 decision that awarded the frequency to Midwest Broadcasting. WWIZ had been off air since 1967 after its license was revoked for FCC rule violations. Lorain stockholders listed are Austin OToole George Mobille Andrew Warhola and Warren Finkel each with 25 percent.
