Emergency surgery failed to save 68 year old Howard Bliss after a construction site guard shot himself when his gum fell from his hand and discharged a bullet into his head. Dayton reports five dead after a religious fanatic opened fire in two banks. Wilfred Sherman, 51, vice president of the Third National Bank, died as the gunman wounded several others. Rail strike tensions grow as 250,000 workers receive dismissal notices amid stalled talks between unions and a nationalized railway management.
