Californians cut water use, but still short of mandatory cuts
California households reduced overall water use by 13.5 percent in April versus 2013 figures, the second-best result so far but well below Gov. Brown’s 25 percent mandate. Santa Rosa led among large cities with a 32 percent drop, while Los Angeles San Diego and the Bay Area saw smaller gains and Bakersfield rose. The Sierra Nevada snowpack remained at record lows as officials stress the need for stronger summer savings.
