Bank Site Clearing To Start For Downtown Drive In
Demolition of the old Peerless Launder and Dry Cleaning building at 336 Second St begins Monday to clear the site for a downtown drive in walk up branch of Elyria Savings and Trust Co. The Peerless firm, operating from a newer plant west of the site since 1913, will relocate its operations. The site lease is held by H C T Corp, affiliated with The Lorain County Printing and Publishing Co, publishers of The Chronicle Telegram. Daniel J. Smith of Pittsburgh, head of the Railroad Group, will speak at the Cleveland meeting about rail lines and diversification in the transportation industry.

Thew Shovel Co president Chauncey Smythe told 48 industrialists at the Exportunities workshop that foreign sales now make up 15 to 25 percent of the company’s volume and that Holland hosts its manufacturing facilities.
