Ohio sheriff OKs standardized deputy uniforms under new law

Lorain County Sheriff Vernon M. Smith endorses the state uniform rule as long as the county buys the outfits. The law sets a three member panel appointed by Gov. DiSalle to prescribe style with sheriffs of Geauga Trumbull and Auglaize selecting the design. Some counties oppose. Hamilton County Sheriff Dan Tehan backs jail concern and higher costs. Smith plans to spend about 4400 dollars for 22 uniforms next year.
