Woods Sign Causes Fire Call at Weddell House
Firemen were summoned to the Weddell House at 109 East Ave last night where the heavy sign for Eugene H. Woods loomed over the roof. Owner George Smitzer had asked his son and another youth to remove it but the sign proved too heavy, sending Siemen to pull it back from a risky sidewalk overhang. Woods ran the hotel as a home for the elderly before Waite Gisepi left unpaid rents and taxes, while Akron and state authorities seek charges over licensing and financial dealings with patients.
