Republic Steel Firm Against Signing Up

In Cleveland on June 2 the Republic Steel Corporation refused to sign a contract proposed by the Steel Workers Organizing Committee despite a strike that reduced output to less than half and idled two other independent producers. U.S. Commissioner James A. Dewey moved between Pittsburgh and Cleveland to discuss peace with union leaders, aiming to brief Labor Secretary Frances Perkins and report the situation from the Mahoning Valley.

Two Men Arrested With Home Made Clubs At Steel Plant

Two Lorain men, George Cosmo 18 and John Kuhn 21, were arrested at the Superior Division of Steel and Tubes Inc at Bond and Adams. Police found large wooden clubs on them as they distributed copies of Steel Labor to workers during shift change. They face tentative charges of carrying concealed weapons and disorderly conduct and were held in city jail awaiting arraignment. Kuhn was reportedly in a picket line recently.

Duke of Windsor to wed Wallis Warfield in church blessing

The Duke of Windsor and Mrs Wallis Warfield plan a church of England blessing at their Monts France wedding tomorrow despite no ecclesiastical approval. Death claims one of Wellington's oldest residents

Mrs Marion Hamlin Laundon 96 a Wellington pioneer and Congregational Church leader died at Falls Clinic Wellington where she had lived with her son H G Laundon since moving to the city in 1842. Four Power Plan on Spain Agreed for Rome Berlin

Ford Labor Relations Probed By Senate Panel

Homer Martin of the United Automobile Workers said the La Follette Senate civil liberties committee is investigating Ford Motor Company's labor relations. Spanish sailboat Granda torpedoed off Spanish coast

PERPIGNAN France June 2 The Spanish sailboat Granda 214 tons sailing from Barcelona with a load of cement was torpedoed today by a submarine off the northeast coast of Spain. The ship sank rapidly after filling with water. The eight crew members escaped in a rowboat which the submarine shelled, killing one crewman Salvador Barberoni and wounding two others.

President Roosevelt summoned American diplomatic chiefs to the White House for a luncheon conference on the Spanish situation. New Auxiliary Building Is Proposed

Tentative plans for a remodeled courthouse and an auxiliary courts building will be presented to Lorain County bar members Monday morning after a preview by county commissioners. Walker and Weeks of Cleveland prepared the proposal, which includes a 60 by 160 foot south end addition joined by a 50 foot corridor and space for probate court, prosecutors, law library, clerk of courts, two court rooms on the second floor, a third floor courtroom with auxiliary jury rooms and grand jury room, plus elevator and enlarged third floor windows to ease congestion in private offices. Cost estimates were not given, though removal of the dome was pegged at about 3800. The plan aims to relieve congestion as county offices now occupy private buildings.
