Experts say H3N2 dog flu not a panic trigger
The H3N2 canine flu outbreak sickens over 1000 dogs in Chicago with cases spreading to other states including California. Experts, including Colin Parrish of Cornell, say dogs are unlikely to fuel a human pandemic and that canine viruses spread more slowly due to dogs' social patterns. Two dog flu types exist. H3N8 linked to horses, and H3N2 a bird-origin virus first found in Asia in 2007, recently detected in the United States possibly via rescue dogs from South Korea.
