Tornado toll revised to 12 in Ohio disaster scene

The Ohio National Guard lowered the death toll to 12 after tornadoes struck central and northeast Ohio. Officials described widespread destruction in Niles Hubbard and Newton Falls while crews searched debris and bulldozers cleared bricks and steel for victims. The outbreak, the worst in Ohio in over a decade, disrupted multiple counties and drew state and federal disaster teams to the scene.

Weather calm after wind storms cuts power in Lorain County

Western Cuyahoga County saw damage to power lines and outages at Great Northern Mall from 5:30 to 6:30 pm as winds 45 to 50 mph died down. NWS observer Ray Diederich said Lorain County escaped the worst as counties south faced tornado warnings until about 1 am.

Harshaw strike may get nasty says union leader

Elyria union president Robert Vincent warned the Harshaw/Filtrol walkout could turn confrontational as it enters a longer-than-expected phase. He forecast at least a month, with picketing potentially escalating after a week. Police monitored activity as trucks were diverted and production continued under company control.

Bright spot in kids day as Elyria honors guards

Ursa Bright, a West River and Furnace streets crossing guard for 23 years, led 20 city guards honored by the Elyria Police Department and Ohio Motorists Association with certificates. She received a 20 year certificate, while others earned 10 or 5 year awards.

Avon Lake Woman Slain in Miami Burglary

Corrine Ann Burns 26 of Avon Lake was stabbed to death by a burglar who entered her Miami apartment around 5 am Thursday. Jeffery Davidson 34, reportedly from a nearby residence, was arrested in connection with the murder as neighbors spotted the intruder loading items. Burns, a marketing consultant for Coca Cola Caribbean operations, had recently relocated to Miami for work and was found by a coworker at 2 pm. Her mother recalled Burns as thriving in a dream life she hoped to build in Florida.
