Unemployment Claims Double In Elyria Area Dragging Through Weather Delays
Ohio employment officials report unemployment claims in Elyria rising to 344, then 482, 508, and 543 over the weeks ending May 28, May 19, May 12, and May 5 as construction weather delays keep layoffs in check. District Manager F P Dirlam notes the rise is not alarming and cites late spring rains. Most job losses stem from construction slowdowns with no single industry hit, though 600 Brown Lip Chap workers were laid off since January due to imported labor. Payments for jobless benefits likely begin next week with claims filed soon.
