Major Leaguers Slump In 49 Pace Is Behind Williams And DiMaggio

Slumps grip headlines as Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio trail far behind their 1949 marks. Williams at .286 and DiMaggio at .256 lag by 57 and 90 points respectively, though RBIs boost both. Sievers leads poor batting with .202 and veterans Vernon and others lag. Pitchers Meyer and several others also fall below last year’s pace, with many noted stars enduring slow starts but expected to rebound as the season unfolds.
