Skill Of Pilot Saves 15 Persons From Airliner Crash
A veteran pilot and a quick thinking air station attendant with a fire extinguisher saved fifteen people when a two motor TWA airliner, trying to reach a safe open area, smashed into a cottage roof near the Chicago airport. The craft spun, one motor failed, then crashed into a vacant lot. Twelve passengers and three crew members were taken to a hospital, nine freed early, six kept for observation. Pilot W. F. Smith maneuvered the giant craft toward an open space a half mile from the field, ripping the roof as the right wing struck a frame cottage. Robert Marlatt age 15 and Glenn Marlatt age 12 were in the attic and cried out as the crash occurred. Marlatt's wife and husband escaped. he grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the engine fire after Smith was knocked from the cockpit.

Alex Nichols of 122 Elbe Street tipped over on Lake Avenue at Huron around 12:15 a.m. Saturday after another car struck him. the other driver fled.

Fugitive From Prison Farm Apprehended Near Oberlin
Steve O Leary age 35 escaped from London prison farm in the early morning of May 39. He and a companion, Wilbur Rider 28, of Zanesville, were stopped by Oberlin Police Officers Charles Cameron and Ebert Mertz at House 29 west of Oberlin. They were in a stolen 1936 airflow Chrysler with allegedly stolen plates from Zanesville. Rider is held for auto theft. A Mau ser pistol was brandished but not fired and discarded into a ditch. the car was recovered later. The two men are jailed with Sheriff Clarence W. Dick confirming the details.
