Havana editor held over plot against U S ambassador
June 1 in Mavana a Havana editor Guillermo Martinez Marques of Alora was jailed at Cabanas fortress amid claims he plotted against Ambassador Jefferson Cha. Police blocked questions as Captain Belisario Hernandez led the arrest and search of the paper’s plant after an Ahora article on the disappearance of Lieut. Martinez Mendex and the ambush near Ambassador Caffery’s home. Lieut. Col. Jose Pedraza described the arrest as action for publishing insidious material that harmed army prestige and hinted at a broader plot linked to the shooting near the ambassador’s residence.
